Another auto-lifting gang in Dwarka busted

The arrested men have been identified as Shahzad Ali (24), a resident of Ranholla, Gurmeet Singh (25), a resident of Tilak Nagar, and Yashpal (38), a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

The suspects were caught from near Dwarka Sector 16 where they had arrived to buy arms, said police.

With the arrest of three men, the Delhi Police claimed on Wednesday that they had busted a gang of car lifters and arms smugglers who were allegedly supplying arms to small-time criminals in the capital.

So far, ten weapons, ammunition and six stolen two wheelers have been recovered, the police said.

The arrested men were identified as Shahzad Ali (24), a resident of Ranholla, Gurmeet Singh (25), a resident of Tilak Nagar, and Yashpal (38), a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

Deputy Police Commissioner (Crime), G Ram Gopal Naik, said they had received information on Saturday that Ali would come to Dwarka Sector 16 to buy arms and ammunition from one of his contacts.

We therefore had a trap, and both Ali and Singh were arrested in a red-handed manner. Further, on their case, we arrested Yashpal from Muzaffarnagar on Sunday, “said the police officer.

Naik said, while questioning, it was revealed that Singh used to purchase illegal weapons from Yashpal. Singh and Ali are also involved in a number of cases of vehicle theft, police said.

Nine land-made pistols, twenty six live cartridges, six motorcycles and one car were seized from their possession, Naik said.
