Auto Crisis :Domestic sales drop 12.76 per cent in October 2019

Auto crisis: The overall domestic sales fell 22.41 per cent in September, 23.55 per cent in August, 18.71 per cent in July, 12.34 per cent in June, 8.62 per cent in May and 15.93 per cent in April.

slight cheer in the passenger vehicle segment owing to festive season offers could not prevent a seventh consecutive overall monthly domestic sales decline of the Financial Year 2019-20 with the numbers falling 12.76 percent to 21,76,136 units in October, the latest data available with the SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) has shown. In comparison, 24,94,345 units were sold in the same month last year.

The overall domestic sales fell 22.41 percent in September, 23.55 percent in August, 18.71 percent in July, 12.34 percent in June, 8.62 percent in May and 15.93 percent in April.

The passenger vehicle sales marginally rose 0.28 percent to 2,85,027 units in October, while the commercial vehicle sales plunged 23.31 percent to 66,773 units. The three-wheeler sales dipped 3.60 percent to 66,985 units and two-wheeler numbers slipped 14.43 percent to 17,57,264 units. The quadricycle sales jumped 16 percent to 87 units.

In October, the overall production fell 26.22 percent to 21,55,863 units. As many as 29,22,010 units were produced in the same month last year.

The passenger vehicle production declined 21.14 percent to 2,69,186 units, while the commercial vehicle numbers plunged 45.48 percent to 58,957 units in October. The three-wheeler production slipped 16.59 percent to 1,01,940 units and two-wheeler production fell 26.57 percent to 17,25,462 units. The quadricycle production dropped 10.17 percent to 318 units.

There was a 2.72 percent jump in overall exports to 3,95,964 units in October. In comparison, 3,85,486 units were exported in the same month last year.

The export of passenger vehicles dropped 2.16 percent to 50,467 units and commercial vehicles declined 40.68 percent to 4,752 units in October. The three-wheeler exports slipped 13.69 percent to 45,065 units, while the two-wheeler numbers jumped 8.03 percent to 2,95,292 units. The quadricycle exports rose 11.49 percent to 388 units.
